Managing Templates in the Admin Page
Overview
Templates help simplify repetitive tasks by allowing users to define custom templates and apply them automatically. By using templates, admins can ensure consistency and efficiency across multiple issues.
Admins can create a template once and assign it to every issue type of a project or a specific issue type of a project, ensuring that tasks are structured consistently across Jira projects.
The admin page for templates consists of two main parts:
- Defining Templates: Creating and managing templates.
- Assigning Templates: Automating template application to issues on creation.
Only Jira admins or project admins can create and manage templates.
Defining Templates
In this section, admins can create new templates, rename them, and edit their content.
Creating a New Template
Admins can create a new template by clicking the "Define a New Template" button located at the end of the page. This action automatically generates an empty template with an empty checklist.
Editing a Template
- Admins can rename a template by clicking on its name.
- Each template can contain one or more checklists.
- Creating and editing checklists and tasks works exactly like in the issue page.
Assigning Templates
This section allows admins to automate template application by assigning templates to projects and issue types.
Applying Templates to a Jira Project
- All available Jira projects are listed in this section.
- Admins can assign one or multiple templates to a Jira project.
Advanced Mode for Issue Types
- By default, templates apply at the project level.
- Advanced Mode allows admins to assign different templates to different issue types within a specific project.
- Enabling Advanced Mode provides granular control over template assignment.
This feature ensures that templates are applied automatically when an issue is created within a specific project or issue type.
