Custom View Permissions for Company Managed (Classic) projects
By default, custom permissions are disabled, so anyone who can see an issue can also use Tick features. To enable more advanced control, follow the steps below.
Open Tick Permissions
Go to Jira → Manage Apps, and in the sidebar, click Permissions under the Tick app section.
Enable View Permissions
By default, View Permissions
are disabled to simplify onboarding. To control who can view checklists and tasks, enable the View Permissions
checkbox.
Navigate to Project settings
On the left side, you'll see your projects. Find the one you want and click the three dots on the right of its name. From the menu that opens, choose Project Settings
.
Open the Project Permissions
Once you are in the project settings, look on the left for the Access menu. Click it to open it, and then click on the Project permissions
link that appears.
Make Changes to Permissions
In the top right corner, you'll find an Actions
button. Click it, and from the dropdown, select Edit permissions
.
Update the View Template Permissions
Under the Project Permissions
section, find View Templates (Tick)
. On the right side of each, click the Update
link.
Grant Access to Roles
A new window will appear. Here, check the boxes next to the roles you want to have these permissions. Then, click Update
.
Issue Permissions
Scroll down until you find the Issue Permissions
section. At the bottom, you will see the custom permissions that Tick provides:
- View Tasks (Tick): Determine which project roles or groups can view checklists on issues.
Seeing the Changes
Now, when the permissions are set just right, you'll see the Tick app appear for those who are meant to see it. Like in this picture, because I am the Assignee of this ticket, the Tick app is showing up – just as we planned it with the steps we walked through earlier.
This ensures that the custom permissions you've configured are effectively enforced within your Jira environment.
Conclusion
While view permissions are good for showing the Tick checklists to only the right eyes, sometimes you need even finer control – who can actually change and manage those checklists and their templates. If that's the way your work flows, the next link below will guide you to setting those Manage Permissions
just how you need them.
